Beauty Tag

Hello Lovelies,

I was recently tagged by the lovely Georgie at Bean's Beauty Blog to do a Beauty Tag. I have done the
Would you Rather? Beauty Edition Tag before, which is similar to this one, so I have decided to just answer the questions I didn't answer in the Would you Rather Tag

If you fancy doing this Tag, copy and paste the questions and let me know when you have posted your answers.

Here are the questions.

If you had £500, would you spend this on clothes or makeup?
I would probably spend half of it on makeup and half on clothes, treating myself to some high end things I wouldn't normally be able to buy.

Bright nails or nude nails all year round?
I think I would choose bright nails, because although I love nude nails I don’t think I’d like to have them all year round. I love wearing bright colours on my nails especially in the Spring and Summer.

Describe your perfect mascara. Have you found one?
I like a really black one that separates my lashes and makes them look longer and thicker. I am loving GOSH’s The Secret Of Longer Lashes Mascara at the moment!

What's your ideal coverage foundation?
I tend to wear BB Cream or a light coverage foundation unless I am going for a night out and then I will use a more medium coverage one. I like a foundation to look quite natural.

Favourite High Street/Drugstore beauty brand?
I would probably have to say Rimmel, because I like several different products of theirs. I also think MUA are a really good affordable high street brand that means anyone can try out different looks without having to spend lots of money.

Favourite High End beauty brand?
I have to agree with Georgie and say MAC and Benefit.

Is there any makeup you can leave the house without wearing?
I don’t often leave the house without makeup unless I am just going to someone’s hosue. As a minimum I usually have BB Cream, Concealer and Mascara on.

What is your most cherished beauty product?
MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle, I love this highlighter and use it all the time. I also love my Naked 3 Palette that I got a month or two ago.

Do you have a budget each month, or do you spend freely?
I don’t have a budget as such, but I try not to buy too much as I have lots of products I don’t use enough already!

How often do you shop for goodies - online or in stores?
Probably a couple of times a month, but whenever I am near a beauty counter or just a shop that sells things like that I can’t resist having a little browse.

Do you always use the same skin routine or do you like switching it up?
Although I know it’s not great for your skin I do switch up things like my cleanser, exfoliator, serum and mask depending on what I feel like, although I tend to stick to the same moisturiser and I love Premae’s Crème Balms, in particular the Harmony and Triumph ones .

If you could only buy one makeup brand forever which would you buy?
For high street I would probably say Rimmel and for high end I would probably choose Benefit or MAC.

Which brand has your favourite packaging?
I think Benefit’s packaging in gorgeous!

Which do you apply first, concealer or foundation?
Always foundation and then use concealer if I feel I need to.

What skin type do you have?
Combination/Oily.

Name a makeup crime you hate.
I hate when someone’s foundation is a different colour to their neck and also really clumpy eyelashes. I use a metal eyelash comb every time I apply mascara and love it for separating out my lashes.

Quick Fire
Blush or Bronzer? Blush
Lipgloss or Lipstick? Lipstick
Foundation or Concealer? Concealer (I always wear this under my eyes)
Brushes or Sponges? Brushes
OPI or Essie? Essie
Lotion or Body Butter? Butter

I tag:
Hayley from Hay Sparkle
Sophie from La Vie Sophie
Emma from Emma's Treasures
Amy from Amy J Walters

And all of you! x

If you do this Tag, let me know, I’d love to read your answers and make sure you check out Georgie's answers here.

Thanks for reading :)

Avène Soothing Hydrating Serum

Hello Lovelies,

I am always excited to try new skincare products, so when I saw Escentual were looking for bloggers to try Avène Soothing Hydrating Serum, I jumped at the chance and I am really pleased that I did, because it has definitely improved the look and feel of my skin.

I hadn't tried anything from Avène before and didn't know much about the Brand or their products. They are a French Brand that use Avène Thermal Spring Water in their products, which is known for its 'soothing and anti-irritating properties',  making them 'the ideal line for sensitive skin'.

This Serum is 'highly concentrated in Avène Thermal Spring Water' which  'provides an immediate calming effect' and also contains Glycerine that 'offers superior moisturising, suppleness and comfort'. Avène say this Serum will leave your skin with a 'velvety feeling' and with 'balance and softness restored'.

This Serum has a lightweight gel texture that feels really refreshing when applied and absorbs quickly into your skin, leaving it feeling silky smooth. I have been using this for about 2 weeks now and I apply 2-3 pumps in the evening and then wait a few minutes for it to really sink into my skin before I apply my moisturiser.

I have combination/oily skin and have had a few drier patches recently, but since using this they have gone and I have definitely seen an improvement in my skin, it now looks more even and feels much more hydrated. Sometimes products that aren't specifically designed for combination skin can make my skin a bit more oily than usual but this hasn't :)

The bottle is made of glass which I think makes this feel like a luxury product and the pump is perfect to make sure you get just the right amount of Serum.

After using this I really want to try some other things from the Avène range, especially the Thermal Water Spray and Cleanance Mask.

If you are looking for something to help soothe and balance your skin I would definitely recommend Avène Soothing Hydrating Serum especially if you have sensitive skin. You can get this from Escentual here and at the moment it has 15% off  and is only £14.45 for 30ml!

Have you tried this or any other products from Avène?

A Little Beauty Haul

Hello Lovelies,

I recently went for a shopping trip with Hayley from Haysparkle and Dee from Dee's Beautiful Life and I have already posted about what I bought from Lush here, but today I wanted to share with you the make-up bits I treated myself to.

No girlie shopping trip would be complete without a visit to MAC and after swatching lots of beautiful things I decided to get the Limited Edition Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick, which I have been wanting for a while. It is a gorgeous shade of red with a frost finish and the packaging is different to the usual black packaging, which I think is nice. The proceeds from the sale of these lipsticks go towards helping women, men and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, so if you buy one, not only are you getting a gorgeous lipstick you are also helping a good cause. :)

In MAC I was also colour matched for their Pro Longwear Foundation and left with a little sample in the shade NC15, which I am looking forward to giving a try.

We spent a while browsing the make-up stands in Superdrug and I spotted this MUA Luxe Palette in Pretty Edgy. I have wanted this palette for a while after seeing a couple of reviews of it, but my local Superdrug never has it in stock and it was only £8 so I couldn't resist getting it. The case is black with gold studs on the top, with a large mirror inside and the eyeshadows are gorgeous. I'm really looking forward to experimenting with this.

I also got some MUA Matte Lipsticks in the shades Pouty Pink, Wild Berry and Scarlet Siren. I already had one of these in the shade Peachy Keen and really like it, so I thought I would try some of the other shades. Hayley recommended Wild Berry and I have already worn that shade a couple of times and love it. These are only £1 and an absolute bargain! If you haven’t tried them yet then make sure you do!

Have you tried any of the things I bought? What do you think of them?

A Small Lush Haul

Hello Lovelies,

Last week I had a lovely day shopping with Hayley from Haysparkle and Dee from Dee's Beautiful Life and although I hadn't planned on buying a lot I did end up getting a few bits. I love reading haul posts so I thought I would share with you some of the things I bought. Today I am going to share with you what I got from Lush. They have an Easter Collection at the moment and before we even went there I knew I wanted to try some things from their Easter Collection.

Straight away I was drawn to the Bunny Bubble Bars, they smell like Lush's Creamy Candy Bubble Bar which I love and I couldn't resist getting two.

 Bunny Bubble Bar  - £3.25

I also got a Fluffy Egg Bath Bomb, that smells quite like Lush's Snow Fairy, so I had to try one.

Fluffy Egg Bath Bomb - £2.95

The Dragon’s Egg Bath Bombs aren't part of the Easter Collection, but I haven't tried one before and I really liked the smell of them, so thought I would give one a try.

 Dragon's Egg Bath Bomb - £3.25

I wanted to get the Bunch of Carrots Reusable Bubble Bars, but when we went they had sold out. Luckily when I went back to Lush a few days later they were back in stock so I got some then. These are like the Bubble Bar Wands and are reusable so I think are really good value for money. They have a kind of tropical scent and I can't wait to try these.

Bunch of Carrots Reusable Bubble Bars - £5.95

If you haven’t seen Lush’s Easter Collection then next time you are near a Lush Store make sure you have a look!

What are your favourite things from Lush's Easter Collection?

Premae Harmony Multi-Vit Smoothie Serum

Hello Lovelies,

Today I wanted to share with you something I have been using for a couple of month’s now and have been really impressed with and that is Premae’s Harmony Multi-Vit  Smoothie Serum.

I am a bit fan of Premae, especially their Crème Balms, in particular the Harmony and Triumph ones and when I first received a sample of this Serum in a Glossybox I was excited to try it and I have since got a full size one.

This is a ‘lightweight shine-control serum’ that not only mattifies your skin ready to apply your make up but also ‘provides a protective second skin barrier and shields the skin against free radicals, environmental changes and chemicalised make up’ and ‘leaves skin healthy, fresh and smoothed’.

This Serum has a light consistency that absorbs into your skin really quickly, leaving it feeling fresh and shine free and you don’t need to use much of it as a little goes a long way. I have oily/combination skin and am always looking for something that will help keep my skin matte and help my make up last for longer and this does exactly that. I apply this all over my face before applying my make up, and you can also mix it with your foundation to make a light ‘BB cream’.

I really like using primers before applying make up and I love Benefit’s Porefessional, but one of the reasons I prefer this Serum to Porefessional is that it feels more natural on my skin and like it is benefiting my skin as well as keeping it shine free.

If you haven’t tried anything from Premae I would definitely recommend you do and I am so pleased I was first introduced to Premae by a sample of their Harmony Crème Balm in my May 2013 Glossbox.

Beauty Box Swap with Row Bow

Hello Lovelies,

A couple of weeks ago I did a beauty box swap with the lovely Row from What Row Chose... and today I wanted to share with you what she picked for my Box.

This is the third beauty box swap I have taken part in and I think they are a really nice way to get to know  other Bloggers and to try things you might not have chosen for yourself or discover products and brands you haven't tried before.

Here is what Row included in my Box…..

I love trying different lip products and I was really excited to see that Row had chosen three Lipsticks for me. The L.A.Colors Lipsticks she chose for me are in the shades Frozen Berries and Fresh. I haven’t tried any lipsticks from this Brand and I am looking forward to giving these a try.

She also chose a Rimmel Lasting Finish Matte by Kate Moss Lipstick in the shade 110. This is a gorgeous red shade and just the sort of colour I love. I don’t think I have tried a matte lipstick before and I am looking forward to trying this.

Row also included for me a Miss Ballantyne Honeybee Lip Balm that she said she loves using. I haven’t tried anything from Miss Ballantyne before but I use lip balms a lot, so I will definitely give use this.

I had mentioned to Row that I have been using liquid eyeliners a lot recently and she chose for me a Dainty Doll Mascara and Eyeliner Duo, which she recommended and I am looking forward to trying it.

Row knows that I love trying different things with my nails and she chose for me some gorgeous spotty Nail Rock Designer Nail Wrap. She also included in my Box a 7 in 1 Nail File, which is always useful :)

Row also included for me a Mudd Deep Cleansing face mask and some Sanctuary Spa Salt Scrub which will both be perfect when I want to have a little pamper session.

Finally Row chose for me a Body Shop Pink Grapefruit soap that smells lovely and fresh and some cherry hand and face wipes, which are a perfect size for me to keep in my bag :)

In my Box Row included a letter telling me why she chose what she did, which I enjoyed reading and thought was a really nice touch.

Thank you Row for all my lovely things :)

If you want to see what I sent Row in her Box, check out her post about our Beauty Box Swap here.

Have you ever taken part in a beauty box swap?

My February 'Love Style' Birchbox

Hello Lovelies,

Today I wanted to share with you what I received in my February Birchbox. The theme for this month's Box is 'Love Style’, and the Birchbox Team have chosen products for this month's Box to 'fit right into your personal routine' and I would agree that the products in this month's Box are ones that everyone could use.

Inside my Birchbox was…..

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner - 1.2g
This is ‘a foolproof liquid liner to help you create Alexa Chung-style feline flicks’. I have recently been trying to use liquid eyeliner more because I really like the winged eyeliner look, so I am looking forward to giving this a try.

Included in this month’s Box was a tutorial card on how to 'Master Liquid Liner', which I think is a really nice addition to the Box and I will definitely give their tips a try!

Urban Veda Radiance Exfoliating Facial Polish - 20ml
I haven’t heard of this Brand or product before, but I always like to try new skincare products. This facial polish contains superfruits that help create a ‘radiant, youthful complexion’ and I am looking forward to giving it a try.

Gilchrist & Soames The London Collection Shower Gel - 45ml
Little shower gels like this are always handy to take with you for weekends or nights away and I really like the smell of this one, so I am sure I will use it.

Beauty Protector Protect & Oil - (I can't see what size this is)
This is a new product that helps protect hair from ‘UV rays, heat and breakage’ and 'keeps hair healthy, shiny and happy' and also smells really lovely. I like using hair oils on the ends of my hair before drying it, so I will give this a try and hope it does what it claims to.

Leighton Denny Nail Colour in Coconutty - 12ml
This is a gorgeous nude/light brown colour with gold glitter in it. I haven’t tried a Leighton Denny nail polish before but will definitely give this a try soon!

Also included in this month’s Box was a little Lifestyle extra, which was a little Green & Black’s Dark 70% Chocolate Bar. Little extras like this are always nice :)

Overall I am really pleased with what I received this month and there wasn't anything included in my Box that I won't use!

If you fancy trying a Birchbox, you can find more details here.

What did you get in your Birchbox this month? Leave me your link as a comment if you have posted about yours.

My February 'Be Mine' Glossybox

Hello Lovelies,

I received my February Glossybox last week and after the disappointing January box I was hoping this month’s would be better and it was! In fact it was probably one of the best Glossyboxes I have received recently. Earlier this month I received an email and survey from Glossybox and it seems they have listened to the feedback they received about the January box and made an effort with this month’s box. Glossybox chose some lovely products for this month's box and I was really impressed they included three full size products and an extra little treat!

The theme for this month’s Glossybox is 'Be Mine’ and the actual box is a special Valentines Day Box. I think it is a nice touch when the boxes are different to the usual pink ones.

Here is what I got this month…..

Ciaté London Paint Pot in Red Hot Chili – 13.5ml
I love Ciaté Paint Pots and this is a gorgeous bright red colour, that will be perfect for spring/summer, so I was really pleased when I saw this included in my Glossybox.

NV Chunky Lip Crayon in Sugar Rush – 4g
I hadn't heard of this Brand before, but I love products like this and this Lip Crayon is a lovely shimmery bright baby pink colour. I think this will be really nice for spring time and I'm looking forward to trying it.

Giovanni Eco Chic Cosmetics - 2x 4.4ml and 1 x 7.4ml
Giovanni Eco Chic is a natural haircare brand and I received a sachet of Ultra-Moist Leave-In Conditioning & Styling Elixir, a sachet of Ultra-Moist Super Potion Anti Frizz Binding Serum and a sachet of Ultra-Sleek Hair & Body Super Potion. I haven't tried any products from this Brand before and I am looking forward to giving these a try.

Nougat London Sparkling Body Shimmer - 100ml
This is a body lotion with a hint of shimmer that smells gorgeous. I wouldn't usually use a product like this, but I think it might look nice in the summer when I have a bit of a tan and it smells really nice, so I will try it.

Maybelline New York Big Eyes Mascara - 4.7ml and 5ml
This mascara has a double brush, one for your top lashes and a smaller one for your bottom lashes, which help you create ‘an all-around eye-opening effect’. I was really excited to see this included in my Glossybox, because I was going to buy this anyway.

As an extra treat for Valentine’s Day Glossybox included a Lindt Lindor Treat Bar, which I thought was a really nice little extra.

Overall I am really really pleased with what I received this month and think Glossybox have definitely turned things around since last month’s box and I hope next month’s box is just as good.

What did you get in your Glossybox this month? Leave me your link as a comment if you have posted about yours.

Hask Argon Oil Healing Shine Hair Treatment

Hello Lovelies,

I know I probably shouldn't, but I tend to straighten or curl my hair at least every other day and because of this the ends of my hair are always a bit dry. So I am constantly on the lookout for something that will help improve the condition of my hair in particular the ends, but that will not make the rest of my hair greasy and recently I have been loving Hask’s Healing Shine Hair Treatment.

This is a lightweight Argon Oil Hair Treatment with added Keratin that helps repair and smooth damaged hair. You can apply this to wet or dry hair to give your hair a smooth and shiny finish. I usually apply it to the ends of my hair when it is still wet before I dry it and it leave my hair silky smooth and shiny without making it feel greasy like some hair oils can.

I have already repurchased this once and will definitely be repurchasing it again when this one runs out. As you don’t need to use much of this each time, a bottle this size tends to last a while. You can get this from Primark for £2.49 (I think), so this really is excellent value for money.

I would love to try some more things from the Hask range, but my local Primark only seems to stock these. Do you know anywhere else that sells Hask products?

Do you have a favourite hair oil/treatment for dry and damaged ends?

Philosophy Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 Cleanser

Hello Lovelies,

Today I wanted to share with you a Cleanser I have been loving recently and that is Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 Cleanser for your face and eyes.

This was the first Philosophy skincare product I have tried and so far I've been really impressed with it. It has ‘natural oil extracts’ that help condition your skin and it claims to ‘cleanse, tone and melt away all face and eye makeup in one simple step, while hydrating the skin’. I always remove my makeup before cleansing, because then I feel like I am giving my skin a good clean rather than just rubbing my makeup around my face. I have been using this with my Foreo Luna Mini in the evenings and from the first time I used it my skin looked clearer, brighter and wasn't left feeling dry in the way that some cleansers can leave your skin feeling. This Cleanser claims to deep clean your pores and I have definitely seen an improvement in the pores on my nose since I've been using this.

This Cleanser made me want to try some more Philosophy skincare products and for the last couple of weeks I have been using The Microdelivery Daily Exfoliating Wash a couple of times a week, which I have also been impressed with so far. There are a couple more products I would like to try and they are Purity Made Simple Foaming 3-in-1 Cleansing Gel for face and eyes and The Great Mystery One-Minute Daily Facial. Have you tried these?

I would definitely recommend this Cleanser and if you get a chance to give it a try, you should!

What Philosophy skincare products would you recommend?

Valtentine's Day NOTD - Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Polish in Rapid Ruby and Ciaté Paint Pot in Serendipity

Hello Lovelies,

With Valentine’s Day coming up on Friday, today I have a NOTD for you that would be perfect for Valentine’s Day and my NOTD is Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Polish in Rapid Ruby with Ciaté Paint Pot in Serendipity on the tips.

This Rimmel Nail Polish is a gorgeous deep red and I have used this in a previous NOTD post, which you can find here. The Ciaté Paint Pot was one of the nail polishes that was in my Ciaté Mini Mani Advent Calendar and it is a gorgeous glittery pink nail polish.

I have tried gradient glitter nails before, which I posted about here and loved the effect, so wanted to try it again with different colours. I love these nail polishes and they are both perfect for Valentines’s Day so I thought I would try them together.

To do your nails like this with a gradient glitter effect is actually quite easy. First I painted my nails with a base coat of Ciaté Underwear Base Coat, followed by two coats of the Rimmel Nail Polish. You could probably get away with one coat, because it is quite thick and easy to apply with a wide brush, but I like to apply two coats. Then I put a thick line of the Ciaté Paint Pot on the tips and left it for a few seconds before gently pulling it down my nail, I did this twice because I wanted them to be really sparkly. I then applied a coat of Ciaté Speed Coat Top Coat, which left them lovely and shiny.

I love the gradient glitter effect and this colour combination and will definitely try this effect out with some different nail polish combinations.

Have you tried this nail effect? What colour combinations do you like?

Thanks for reading :)

Sleek Blush in Flushed

Hello Lovelies,

Today I wanted to share with you a Sleek Blush I have been loving recently. You probably will have heard  of or tried Sleek’s Rose Gold Blush that is a dupe for NARS Orgasm Blush and that was the first shade I tried. I love the colour of the Rose Gold Blush and was really impressed with how pigmented it was. So with my love of Sleek’s Blushes started I decided to try another one and I got the shade Flushed.

Flushed is a gorgeous deep raspberry red colour that has a tiny bit of sparkle in it, although when applied it isn't really sparkly or shimmery. This is very pigmented, which is great because it means you only need to use a little and can easily build it up for a deeper colour if you want to. I think it gives you a natural looking colour, like when you have been out in the cold and your cheeks become flushed, which I guess is why it was called Flushed! I find Sleek Blushes are really smooth to apply, blend easily and last all day.

Not Blended

Blended

I really like the packaging of Sleek Blushes, they feel really solid and not flimsy and I think they look more expensive than they are. They come with their own mirror, which is always handy.

At only £4.49 I think these are amazing value and would recommend you give them a try if you haven't already. I love them and will definitely be trying some other shades.

What are your favourite Sleek Blushes?

NOTD - Barry M Matte Nail Paint in Crush

Hello Lovelies,

Today I have a NOTD Post for you and my NOTD is Barry M’s Matte Nail Paint in Crush. I received this as part of my prize from the lovely Emily at Bambis Beauty Blogs' Christmas Giveway and was really pleased that I did because I have been wanting to try one of Barry M’s Matte Nail Paints for a while.

Crush is a gorgeous deep red colour, which is just the sort of colour I love especially for Autumn and Winter time. This nail polish is quite thick and applies really easily and neatly and it dries to a lovely smooth matte finish. If you applied a thick coat you may be able to get away with just one coat, but for an even solid colour I applied two coats.

In the photo I have applied a base coat of Ciaté Underwear Base Coat followed by two coats of the Barry M Matte Nail Paint.

I love the finish of this and want to try some of the other shades. Have you tried any of Barry M’s Matte Nail Paints?

Thanks for reading :)

My January 'Back to Basics' Glossybox

Hello Lovelies,

I received my January Glossybox earlier this week and I always look forward to it arriving and seeing what is inside, but this month I was quite disappointed with what was inside mine. The Theme for this month’s Glossybox is 'Back to Basics' and the Glossybox Team have chosen 'simple essentials' for this box.

The actual box this month was the same pink colour as the usual ones, although it looks a bit glossier and is bigger than the usual ones. The ribbon inside has also been changed and now has Glossybox and the Glossybox symbol printed on it.

Here is what I got this month…..

Yu-Be Moisturising Skin Cream - 2 x 3g
This is a 'multi-use' moisturising cream that can be used on really dry skin including your face and lips. I hadn't heard of this brand or product before and it isn't something I would normally buy, but I will give it a try.

Balance Me Super Toning Body Wash - 50ml
This Body Wash has 'juniper, bergamot, geranium and lavender essential oils' in it and unfortunately I really don't like the smell of it, so I think I will see if a friend or one of my sisters likes the smell and I'll give it to them.

The Vintage Cosmetic Company Floral Slanted Tweezers
These tweezers have a gorgeous floral pattern on them and are probably my favourite thing in this month's Glossybox, although I already have a few pairs of tweezers, so didn't really need another.

Anatomicals Puffy The Eye Bag Slayer Wake-Up Under Eye Patches - 2 sachets
I've tried a few Anatomical things before, but hadn't heard of these. They 'help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and revitalise the delicate skin around your eyes'. I haven't tried any eye patches before am intrigued to see how these work, so will give them a try.

Vaseline Essential Moisture Clean Feeling Lotion - 50ml
I was a bit disappointed to see this in my Glossybox, because I thought the samples in Glossyboxes were supposed to be high end ones and I wouldn't say Vaseline was high end. Although moisturisers like this are always handy so I am sure I will use this.

Overall I am not very excited about what I received in my Glossybox this month and after speaking to other people on Twitter I realised that I am not the only one who was disappointed with this month’s Glossybox. I really hope Glossybox do better next month or I may have to cancel my subscription, particularly as my Birchboxes have been so good recently.

What did you get in your Glossybox this month? Leave me your link as a comment if you have posted about yours.

Thanks for reading :)
